I am licensed by the College Of Psychologists of Ontario to assess, diagnose and treat individuals with psychological conditions within my areas of expertise. I am an assessment and treatment service provider for the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. I am also an assessment and treatment service provider for the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, which oversees all assessment and treatment to individuals that are injured in motor vehicle collisions in Ontario, regardless of what insurance carrier an individual has.
All professional treatment starts with an assessment. The assessment process may be different for different conditions. An assessment for a self-referred individual or couple or physician referred individuals for either individual or couple\family therapy does not require pre-approval. An assessment for any individual injured in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) or in a workplace incident (WSIB) requires pre-approval by the respective agency.
Most formal psychological assessments employ the use of psychological tests that have standardizations for different groups, or ages. An example of this might be an intelligence test that has different “normal” scores for different age groups, or a psychological symptom test that has “typical” scores for individuals that have certain psychological conditions.
For individual, couple or family therapy cases, the assessment process is a little different. In most cases, the assessment consists of the taking of a fairly comprehensive clinical history from you to learn more about your own specific personality dynamics, the length of time the condition(s) have continued, as well as any other contributing factors such as chronic medical health issues.
